John Mayer Concert Pictures

July and August are Incredibily Busy!

It's ridiculous how busy this month has been. There is so much going on when the summer hits even though I don't really want to go outside because it's hot and humid most days. Michelle and I saw John Mayer last week which was a lot of fun. It was quite an adventure going all the way over and down to the south Jersey shore to see him at the PNC Bank Arts Center. I will think again before going to a concert there. It would have to be somebody that was really really good so John Mayer fit that bill. He pretty much added a solo to every single song and Gravity was 10 minutes with 5 minutes dedicated entirely to the solo! My goodness, it was amazing! I love his new, bluesy, rock stuff that his last album consisted of. He's come a long way from his poppy days.

Work has been crazy too, with Shane leaving there's a lot of work to do but it gives me more responsibility which is great. I'm anticipating long days ahead but hopefully that's only for the short run.

I finished the last Harry Potter book yesterday and it was SOOO GOOD! Wow, what an ending and epilogue. I will not spoil the book for anyone who is still reading it but finish quickly so I can talk to you about it!!!

Travis: A Concert That Tops The List

Travis w/ John Paul White @ The Fillmore

July 14th 2007 :: New York

We just got back from seeing Travis at the Fillmore (formerly Irving Plaza) and WOWWWWW, WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOW! I thought the last time I saw them was amazing but this show inches past.

Highlights before I forget:
  • Coming through the crowd in the beginning to get to the stage:
Travis made their way to the stage by coming in through the crowd as the Rocky theme song was playing in the background!
  • Proximity to the stage, we were 3 rows from the front:
We had a great view of the stage that allowed me to get some amazing shots.
  • Eyes Wide Open:
This song was sooooo good live. The beat is so catchy and the guitar chords ripping through the air like it was butter.
  • Selfish Jean Reprise with Demetri Martin:
This was HILARIOUS! He's the guy from the selfish jean video and he came on stage for a reprise of the song. He wore layers and layers of shirts that had different words and symbols that had to do with the song. It was really cool to see that live! HAHA!
  • All I Wanna Do Is Rock solo in the crowd:
Andy jumped off stage and into the crowd to perform the mind blowing solo on the ground. It was pretty intense seeing him 3 feet away ripping away at this solo!

  • Dougie's Pink Trainers
He's SO BRITISH! He was wearing pink trainers!
  • Fran's explanation of My Eyes is about his new baby
  • "It's been donkey's since we've been here"
Seriously...who uses "donkey's" as a duration. We looked this one up after the show and it's cockney for "years" because it sounds like "donkey's ears" which are long...wow
  • Flowers in the Window Acoustic
All of them came to the front of the stage and sang this song with Fran playing his Taylor.
  • Andy's Guitar Playing
Incredible...just an incredible and solid guitar player!
  • Dougie's Cheekiness
    He's a cheeky bugger.

A Bob Friday and Travis Saturday

Bob Schneider w/ James Maddick @ Knitting Factory
July 13th 2007 :: New York

We didn't catch much of the opener but from what we saw he was pretty good. Bob played a 2 hour set with a lot of favorites including piggyback which is one I hadn't heard live before. It was a pretty lousy crowd but the show was very upbeat, fun and engaging. Bob is such a fun artist to see because there's always something wacky he and his band do. They invited they two guys up on stage for a few of their songs and they were dancing all weird and crazy. It was pretty entertaining.

The Knitting Factory was a really small and cozy venue and they had the AC blasting! It stayed nice and cool the entire show even though the place was fairly packed. It was really entertaining friday even though we got their at 7:30 only to find out that Bob didn't come on until 10! We actually took the subway back to my apartment and came back a few hours later. Overall, great show with lots of energy and passion. I definitely need to go see him whenever he comes to town.

Tonight, we're going to see TRAVIS!!! I haven't seen them (thinking back to when I saw them in Austin with Giulio...) since 2003...4 YEARS! The first time I saw them was the peak of my concert going experiences so I have my hopes up for this show. We're going down there two hours early because this is NY and the show is sold out meaning the place is going to be packed! I am highly anticipating this show and I love their new album which makes it all the better.

Soccer and Frisbee After Work

It was such a nice day today, 81 being the high with very low humidity. I had to find some way to take advantage of this break between hot and humid days. This evening, I met a few of my colleagues (Shane, John and Paras) in the park and we played soccer and Frisbee on the great lawn. Even though everyone arrived at 8pm, we still had a great time with the sunlight we had left.

As the sun was going down, the forested area behind me was beginning to spark, or so it seemed. Small bulbs of light twinkled in the darkness. After another 20 minutes, the whole ground looked like it was releasing these sparks from the inner depths of the earth. It was really quite amazing and I have never seen that many fireflies at one time! I have a new task now, try to capture that on camera. We'll see how that goes...

Red Hook Ball Fields

All I need to say is HUARACHE! The watermelon juice was amazing as well...

Maracas and Yankee Stadium

It's been such a long and stressful week. I had so much work to do and I am so relieved it's the weekend. It's amazing that July 4th didn't even give me a tick of rest but I'm sure it would've been worse if I didn't have that day off in the middle of the week.

Anyways, Michelle and I met up with my sister and Paul for dinner on Thursday which was really nice (except for the weather). We tried to go to a really amazing Indian food place called the Kati Roll Company but it was packed, small and hot inside. So we gave up on that idea and went for Mexican. We tried a place in the west village that Michelle and I had heard of a few months ago called Maracas. It was a fun atmosphere although it felt more like a bar than a restaurant. The chips and salsa were excellent and they gave us another basket on the house (in small print at the bottom it says each additional basket is $3.50...sneaksies!). Michelle and I shared the La Bandera which consists of three different kinds of enchilada's with three different sauces. It was really tasty, although I didn't like the beef enchilada as much as the other two. Overall it was about an 8.5 on the Mexican food scale with the great burrito edging it out for first place.

Yesterday my co-worker, Engin, was asking if anybody wanted to go to the Yankee's game tonight and since they were playing the Angels (Michelle's favorite team) I grabbed em. We made our way up to the Bronx after I got off work and except for a little subway delay we made it fine. Our seats were out in the bleacher section in right field but they had a great view of the action and the tickets were only $20! It turned out to be a gorgeous night with a night breeze blowing through the stadium. We had a really fun time!

Today is finally going to be my second trip to the RED HOOK BALL FIELDS! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so incredible!

Through the Sunset

July 1st 2007
The perfect day of New York weather turned into a magnificent evening. I took advantage and went out for a run in central park. The sun was setting behind me at I started off towards the park on 95th st. I entered the lusciously green park on the west side and made my way around to the Jackie Onassis Reservoir running track, my usual spot. The water looked so beautiful in the evening light and a huge feeling of relief came upon me like a wave crashing into the shore. I ran half way around the reservoir and was willing myself to complete the 1.5 mile loop when the view struck me. To the west was a stunning mix of elongated, scattered clouds and a bright, golden orb spraying light around the distant buildings. I ran on but the view was so captivating that I had to stop and take it in. Golden rays were streaming across the water and up into the clouds. The buildings blocked what light they could but they could not hold back the golden burst waiting to shoot through the openings. All of a sudden the sun sunk a little lower behind one of the towers and just like a jack o' lantern the windows were inflamed with a golden hue. Remarkable.

I continued on and came across patches of light where the rays were slicing through the gaps of the buildings to the west. I felt so lucky to be there in that moment. Brilliant!

The End is Near

As my website expiration date gets closer (July 15th, 2007) I am considering not renewing the site and just moving to a free blog. It's $100 per year and I don't really use it anymore except for writing entries. When I think about it, it's quite expensive for just an online journal. I apologize to those who enjoyed getting the email updates but I encourage you to check my new site regularly. I will post the link when I make a decision whether to terminate this site or not. Thanks for reading!
